Yesterday was day eight for Kristen, and the chemo has finally started to catch up with her. She has some sores on her tongue and the inside of her mouth that make it more difficult to eat. She will typically take some morphine ahead of eating, and that will typically knock the pain off enough for her to get some nutrition. To this point, her hair had grown back to probably a half an inch, but it looks like that may be going too, but that's OK - it will grow back. Despite all this, her spirits are still good, and the doctors say she is doing wonderful. She received platelets on Saturday, she will probably get them again on Monday, and perhaps some blood, however thus far her hemoglobin has been above 10. Jill will return today, I know she enjoyed her time at home, but is anxious to see Kristen.
Please pray for safe travels, and continue to lift Kristen up in prayer for her stem cells to begin producing cells, hopefully we are about a week away from that milestone. Once she begins producing cells, and her white counts recover to a reasonable point, she will be able to get out of the hospital and return to the apartment, then it will just be trips to the clinic several times a week for blood work and follow-up.
