OK, so the title doesn't necessarily apply to these next few posts. These will be from a father's perspective. Jill and Steven left for Fayetteville at the crack of dawn today. Jill had been down here since June 3rd, and was in need of some down time to recharge.
Day +3 was a great day for Kristen. She is still feeling amazingly well, other than the egg sandwich (sans egg) this morning. Must have been something about the "meat shake" Canadian Bacon that was on the sandwich. Those of you at Tyson know what I'm talking about - it's that "formed meat". After that, she had a good ole strawberry Pop-Tart, and was good to go. The doctors said they couldn't expect her to be doing any better at this point in the process. For some reason they keep qualifying that, so I'm certain there will be some rough sledding at some point in the future. For now though, Kristen remains strong, is getting out to exercise, is maintaining her sense of humor, and doing very well. We played domino's this morning to pass the time, then she talked me into making her chicken and fettuccine alfredo. For my first time at the alfredo sauce, I must admit, it wasn't too bad. The hospital here has an open kitchen to make things seem a bit more like home. If you can get time at the stove you can whip up whatever you like.
Please keep Kristen in your prayers, along with all the other youngsters on the 9th floor here at M.D. Anderson. There are some real cute little kids on the floor, and it certainly tugs at your heart to see what they and their families are going through.
Please pray for Kristen to remain strong, for the stem cells to en graft and begin to produce blood cells, and for a minimum of complications over the coming weeks.
