Day 18

This is Devin, I'm filling in for Jill because she didn't bring her laptop up to the hospital with her.

She and Kristen went up for their normal routine, however part way through receiving platelets Kristen's oxygen levels dropped to 76%. She had a coughing fit and when they came back in the room to take vitals which they do about ever 30 minutes when they infuse blood products her levels had dropped from 98% to 76%. They immediately put her on oxygen to get them back up. Once finished Jill and Kristen went down to the emergency center for observation. After another chest x-ray and I'm not sure what else they decided to go ahead and admit Kristen back into the hospital. They feared she had a pulmonary embolism. At this point, we're not sure what the scoop is, however I'm sure we will learn more in the next day.

Kristen is back up on the peds floor and on oxygen to keep her saturation up, and is doing OK. Jill is going to spend the night at the hospital with her just so she can keep up with what the doctors are thinking. One thing we are sure of is that her nasal wash indicated she had the para influenza type 3 virus and this may be the issue with her upper respiratory system.

Please pray that Kristen's respiratory issues improve, and that she can fight off this virus, and pray for wisdom of the medical team while determining what the problem is and a course of treatment.
