Kristen had a pretty good night, the alarms on her monitor didn't go off too much. At this point, they will typically alarm for high respiratory rate or low blood oxygen. This morning her blood oxygen slowly began dropping into the low 90s, and when it he 89 they bumped up her oxygen. She started yesterday at 3 liters, and the bumped it up to 5 overnight, and now it looks like she might be on 7 with her blood oxygen holding at 94.
They still have concern of her respiratory rate and tried to put her on a supplemental device that appears to be something like what you would use for sleep apnea. It provides positive air pressure to try and get her to take deeper breaths and hopefully slow down. They tried that in the ER Friday night, and she didn't tolerate it very well. They tried twice again today once with a mild sedation and still no luck. With sedation she seems to slow down, but she is still breathing in the high 40s and low 50s. For perspective, try and breath 10 times in 12 seconds and you'll get the idea. Our fear at this point is that if she doesn't start to improve soon they may be forced to put her on a ventilator. Let's hope and pray it doesn't come to that.
They took another chest X-Ray this morning and no improvement, they said it might even be a little worse than the previous one they took on Friday. Her CT scan from yesterday looked awful, they referred to it as broken glass (doesn't sound good). The transplant doctors are going to take her off the steroids they have tried for the last couple of days and throw in another anti-fungal drug. So far all the test results and cultures have shown negative. It sounds like the plan is to continue all the anti-fungal drugs and see if she doesn't turn the corner in the next couple of days.
Prayer requests remain almost the same:
1. That her respiratory improves soon
2. That what ever this is has a response to the drugs soon
3. Wisdom for the medical team that is treating her
God Bless! and Pray Faithfully!
Devin.
