I have been a mom on a mission. For some reason my life has depended on finding Kitty Bear and Blankie. Poor Devin came home one lunch and I was almost hysterical about finding them. It's weird what we obsess about. Kitty Bear is a much loved, much patched teddy bear-ish creature. He looks a bit like a bear but has a long tail like a cat. I don't know where he came from. But he was one of Kristen's favorites. Some how we got in the habit of playing a game where we would bounce Kitty Bear up and down and say, "Jump kitty, jump kitty, jump kitty, jump!" On the last jump he would jump out of site for a second. It's fun to look at him and see all his "war" wounds. He looks pretty good for 21.
So Blankie was easy to find. He was in a special place because he was getting a little worn out. Interestingly enough, he is not the original blankie. The original blankie was a pink blanket made for Kristen by my high school friend's mom. Until Kristen was about 3 that blankie went everywhere with us. Unfortunately he was left at a Bed and Breakfast in England and was never seen again. We hoped that the proprietor would mail it to us but... So Blankie II is a red and white blanket with the abc's on it. It matches Kitty Bear better. Kristen picked her blankies by their scrunch factor. It had to scrunch just right under her neck. As soon as Devin got Blankie for me I stuffed him under my neck and he still has the perfect scrunchability.
I find comfort in these two items. Okay, they have found their way into my bed for a while.
I am still searching for a missing quilt. It was the one that a friend made for her and she kept it on her bed all summer. If you've seen this lovely quilt, please return it to me. It's got a gold backing and some bright fall colors and her name embroidered on it. If you've picked it up as a keepsake, I'm willing to trade.
