So, we thought we were back home and ready to move forward when the rug gets yanked out from under us.
Today when I went to Kristen's apartment she was lethargic and it was difficult to even get her to drink a Boost and take her medicines. I asked her if she wanted to come back home with me and she did not have to be asked twice. On the drive home from her house, I just had one of those mom feelings. You know the one that tells you something just isn't right. I pulled all the stops to get her in to see the doctor this afternoon. (Actually, I didn't have to work to get her in. We have really wonderful medical teams.) Well my intuition was right. After taking a chest x-ray and checking her out and conferring with the transplant doctor, they decided that she most likely has BOOP. Yes you read that right. Bronchiolitis obliterans with organizing pneumonia (BOOP). BOOP is a rare lung condition in which the small airways (bronchioles) and the tiny air-exchange sacs (alveoli) become inflamed and plugged with connective tissue. This is what I have learned from google. Kristen had become very dehydrated so they gave her iv fluids and we will go back for some more in the morning.
Now the kicker, Dr. Popat wants us (Kristen) back in Houston for some further testing. We don't know any details yet. We don't know when we will need to be there or for how long or ...
Please pray for Kristen during this bump in the road to recovery.
