Today we had a day off. No appointments, no pokes and prods for Kristen. We got to sleep in and just relax in general. Today was also a day where we got to experience God through the actions of one of His faithful.
We ventured to lunch at Firehouse Subs (one of our favorites). It was really busy, full of Houston's finest, families, and business people. Several people caught our attention. The little boy looking out of the corner of his eye at the police officer, a little fearfully. The sweet redheaded children at lunch with their grandpa. And many more. One lady caught my attention as she was leaving. She was a slim lady probably around her mid 50's with blond hair piled on top of her head. Our eyes met and she smiled. Probably about 5-10 minutes later she came back in and walked right to our table. She asked Kristen where she was being treated. We answered, MD Anderson. She told us that she worked at MDA. She then asked if we were Christians. We said yes and she handed us a well loved book entitled "Joy for a Woman's Soul, Promises to Refresh You Spirit". She apologized that it was so worn but wanted Kristen to have it. We were beyond touched. She asked Kristen's name and said she would go write it down and pray for her. I asked her name before she walked away, Georgia.
I've found myself thinking about her and thanking God for her faith. A while back Devin and I were in a community group where we studied the book "Just Walk Across the Room". Boy, did Georgia ever walk across the room. This afternoon I was reading Isaiah 4. In my commentary one sentence stuck out. "Live fearlessly, trusting in God's power to protect you as you boldly obey Him." Georgia embodied this for me today. She fearlessly walked up to strangers and shared her faith and God's love. Bless her. She was obedient to that quiet voice that urges us to do what is often uncomfortable.
Kristen and I feel challenged to "walk across the room" during our time here. I had requested ideas a while back from a few of you for a study for Kristen and I this summer. We have chosen the book "Bad Girls of the Bible". Should be interesting.
