Once again, Kristen was responsive when we arrived this morning. Actually, she was more awake than we liked. They had backed off one some of her sedation and pain medication because her blood pressure was too low, and have since given her some fluids and moved them both back up so she can be comfortable.
She had run a fever most of the day yesterday so that tends to dehydrate you so they just need to balance that with the fluid volumes they are giving her. The ventilator is back up to 55% oxygen this morning after being at 45% last night. I think this had something to do with the fact that she wasn't sedated enough and when that happens she starts to breath more rapidly and more shallow. We'll see how it progresses throughout the day.
Still no word on anything definitive so they still continue a very broad range of anti-* drugs in hopes something starts to work. She has received a couple units of platelets and a couple units of blood since she has been here. We don't know exactly what to think of that other than given the near constant fever and all the anti-* drugs she has received it may have an impact on her ability to generate the right types of cells given how recent her transplant was. We'll ask the stem cell doctors this morning if we see them. I know in the past when she was sick with fever they would typically have to supplement her with some platelets.
The infectious disease doctor said things are still very serious as there has been no improvement in her chest x-ray and the O2 levels on the ventilator have increased. I however, believe we will be in a better place as the day goes on and she has a chance to calm down, even the respiratory tech indicated they needed to sedate her more and make her more comfortable.
I've rambled on a bit here this morning, but that seems like the kind of morning it's been. Kristen is resting comfortably now, and we'll keep an eye on her as the day proceeds.
Prayer requests continue the same this morning: healing, wisdom and discernment for the medical team, and strength for us all to see this through.
God Bless, and thank you for the continued prayer and support.
Devin.
