Boy is it hot down here and HUMID. When Kristen and I went out to replenish some grocery staples, it felt like the air was sucked right out of you. The heat index is reported to be as high as 108! (I just spoke to Devin and I hear that it's almost that hot back home.) That doesn't seem possible. We didn't stay out long, Kristen felt like she could hardly breath. We spent our time getting the apartment back in order after our weekend visitors. Kristen also took the time to print out and fill out some registration forms for online classes. We also did some research on the case study in which they would like Kristen's participation. This study has Kristen take shots of a medication for 5 days every month for the next year. Initially she was really turned off by the side effects listed. She didn't want to spend another year sickly. We talked to our Cigna representative and the Research Nurse regarding her qualms. Kristen finally felt that it was worth trying. She may or may not get the drug. The study involves a group that receives the medication and one that is a control. The idea is that this medication may help in keeping her leukemia from coming back, since she is at high risk for relapse. (That was hard for me to type. Let alone try to absorb.) Yesterday after she read through the consent she looked at me and said, "Mom, we need to pray on this one." So that's what we are doing. Please pray with us on this. If Kristen should not be in this study we need to some kind of confirmation.
So today is day 3 of shark week. Last night I had to go watch tv in my room. I was sick of so many shark shows! We spend a lot of time this go round watching Animal Planet, Nat Geo Channel, or Discovery. Pray that I survive shark week!
Prayer requests:
- Confirmation on the decision to participate in the Case Study
- Kristen to return to freer breathing. We hope this is just a problem with the humidity and not something else.
- She woke with a little swelling around her eye, so pray that she is not having a reaction to the Pentamidine from yesterday. (She wasn't supposed to get it but the Pharm D didn't catch the nurse in time. We don't know for sure if that was what caused her hives from before. And the dermatologist said she may not have another reaction.)
- Pray that Kristen's transplant has been successful and that she is looking at a future free from AML!
