Day 8 - Changing of the Guard

Jill and I swapped off today, so she could get some down time back at home. The flight was uneventful, and thanks again to our friends that make that possible. Kristen had a pretty good day today, she received six units of platelets this morning, and two units of whole blood this afternoon. They give her benadryl as a pre-med to reduce the chance of reaction, and Kristen is one that gets sleepy with benadryl, so she wasn't too active today. Her appetite is still very good, which is a blessing as we need to pack some weight back on her little frame. Her blood pressure has been high today, which is unusual for her, around 130 over 95 so not too bad, and most likely due to the amount of fluids she has taken in over the past couple of days. They put her on some lasix to get her to shed some fluid. They said they would keep an eye on it and give her some meds if needed to bring it back down. She looks good, and is still in good spirits. Please keep her in your prayers, and specifically pray for an uneventful engraftment process, and praise for the health care providers, they are truly gifted and wonderful.

When I opened up my browser this evening I saw the story of the brave 16-year old girl Abby Sunderland that is feared to be lost at sea. Last week when I was here they had a story on her and I thought to myself if I could let one of my kids take off on a venture such as that at that age. The answer was "no way"... What a couragous you lady. Please pray for her and her family as they work their way through this difficult time.

Take Care, and God Bless!

Devin.
